  • Harold and Dorothy Steward Center for Jazz 3536 Washington Avenue St. Louis, MO, 63103 United States (map)

I am not performing on this event, but am producing it on behalf of Jazz St. Louis. The event is free and features a talk by Dr. Vernon Mitchell, Jr. on ways in which jazz musicians (both past and present) have used their medium as a method to affect social change. Following the talk is a performance of Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite, We Insist! This work is rarely performed and is just as appropriate today as it was when it was recorded in 1960. Performing the work are Bob DeBoo (bass), Martin Morrison (drums), Danny Campbell (trumpet), Cody Henry (trombone), Ben Reece (tenor saxophone), and Kim Fuller (vocals).
